Dear Fourth Grader,
Hi!
Welcome to 4th Grade Social Studies. My name is Ms. Williams, and I am your Social
Studies teacher this year. We will be
learning about the different regions of the United States, Kansas history, and
some basic economics. We will also learn
to read an informational text. I think
you are going to have a lot of fun!
Here are
some important rules for my room: Be
respectful to the other students and me.
That means, don’t say anything that might hurt someone else’s
feelings. And, please wait your turn to
speak. Also, the items that are in my
room need to stay in my room. If these
rules are not followed, you could get in trouble – so please remember them.
Your
teacher will assign a Social Studies book to you. You won’t have to bring it to my room, but
you might want to bring it home if you need to use it.
Here are
some assignments that you will do this year.
For more information about these assignments, please go to the school
website and click on my page. You may
also ask me for a paper copy of this information.
Vocab Pictures: You will
draw a picture of the important vocabulary words and concepts from each
chapter. If you do a great job, you can
even get extra credit! I will keep them
in my room so that you don’t lose it, but you are welcome to take them home to
work on them. Also, you definitely want
to practice these before a test.
Reading Quizzes, Graphic Organizers, and Other Homework: We will complete these in class. But, if you are not satisfied with your
grade, you can do it over and over again until it is perfect. I will give you full credit for your
corrections. These can also be found
online, or you can ask me for a copy.
Tests: Except for third
quarter, when we are learning about Kansas History, we will take two tests each
quarter. If you study your vocabulary,
the tests will be easy! We will also
take four short States and Capitals quizzes during the second and fourth
quarters.
Projects: Each quarter, you will be expected to complete one project at home. Please pay close attention to the rubric, and don't forget the due date!
I am looking forward to having
you in my class!
All the Best,
Ms. Williams
