CGS Elections
Students in Colby Grade School voted for the Governor Race and the Senate Race on Election Day this past Tuesday. Kindergarten through 5th grade practiced their civic right to vote. Even though their votes do not count legally, the students learned about the voting procedure and were very excited to participate in the process.
In setting up this election, we tried to be as authentic as possible. The students registered to vote last week and learned about the candidates. When they voted, the students had to sign in to get a ballot and then went into the voting booths to cast their ballots. The polls were set up in the Activity Room and the voting for the day was monitoring by volunteers. We really appreciate the United Methodist Church Education Partnership volunteers and RSVP volunteers for running the polls for us. Thanks also to the UMC Education Partnership for providing the bracelets the students received after voting.
Kindergarten through 2nd grade voted for Governor. 3rd through 5th voted for Governor and the Senate race.
In the Colby Grade School election, Sam Brownback won with 226 votes while Paul Davis received 141 votes. Sen. Pat Roberts won the Senate race with 114 votes and Greg Orman tallied 48 votes. We appreciate everyone who helped teach about the election process and the importance of good citizenship.
